Author: Frederick Talbot (1833–1903)

Biography: Frederick Talbot was born on 30 August 1833 in Leeds, the son of John Talbot and his wife Ann Elizabeth Watson. He entered the civil service and worked as a surveyor of taxes. Judging by the censuses, he moved often, living for periods in Kent, Surrey, Wales, Nottinghamshire, and France. He married and had six children, the youngest two born in France. In the 1870s, he began contributing fiction to Chambers's, Belgravia, and other magazines. Talbot published four novels in rapid succession and continued to write serial fiction for newspapers. He died on 18 May 1903 in Betchworth.
