Biography: James Reynolds was born about 1800 in Ireland. He trained in Dublin and became a physician with a practice in Booterstown. In addition to his medical duties, he maintained a remarkable literary career: he edited several literary magazines, wrote three novels under the pseudonym "E. L. A. Berwick", and wrote several successful plays. He married and had two sons. For many years Reynolds was an invalid. He died on 1 February 1866 in Booterstown.
