Biography: Elizabeth Janet Jenings was born in 1818 in Ripon, the second daughter of Rev. William Plues, the headmaster of Ripon Grammar School, and his wife Hannah Swire. Her parents both died within days of each other in February 1851. She married Edmund John Jenings of Fir Trees, Hawkhurst, Kent. Relatively late in life, she authored two novels shortly before her death in 1863. Her younger sister was the science writer and novelist Margaret Plues ("Skelton Yorke") who lived for a time with her family.
