Biography: Charles Garner was born in 1857 in London, the son of farmer Robert Garner. At an early age, he took to the stage as a lecturer and performer under the stage name "Stuart Cumberland" which he eventually adopted as his legal name. In particular, he did magic and mindreading (mostly through careful observation). Added to this, he wrote several books including fiction. Garner traveled the world performing. Later in life, he edited a magazine and attacked spirtualism as a fraud. He died in 1922.
