Biography: Isabel Turnbull Sturrock Don was born about 1854 in Forfar, the daughter of linen manufacturer William Gilbert Don of Inverighty House. Desiring higher education, she attended Oxford University, taking a first class in literature with honours (though no degree as it was still prohibited women). She remained at Somerville Hall as an assistant before becoming the principal of Aberdare Hall in Cardiff. At this time, she began writing, producing a history of Holland and several novels. After her time in Cardiff, she went on to deliver lectures and courses on literary subjects. She never married and died on 24 August 1896 in Geneva.
