Biography: Bessie Dill was born in 1861 in Colmonell, the daughter of minister William Dill and his wife Margaret. After schooling, she became a governess, first in Yorkshire then in London. In the 1890s, she began writing fiction under the pseudonym "L. Beith Dalziel" but she abandoned the pen name in the twentieth century. She moved back to Scotland, never married, and died in 1936 in Penninghame.
