Biography: Alice Mary Dale was born in 1850 in Sheffield, the daughter of bank clerk Albert Holdsworth. In 1875, she married Frederic Dale and the couple emigrated to Australia around 1884. In Sydney, she wrote three novels which were all published in England and reviewers all noted her Sheffield connections. Her husband was killed in a tramway accident in 1908 and she died on 26 July 1919 in Sydney.
