Biography: Sydney Katherine Phelps was born on 21 June 1867 in Crewkerne, the daughter of landowner John Brayant Phelps. She moved with her widowed mother and siblings to London by 1881. In the 1890s, she began a literary career with poetry, recitations, and fiction including the novel His 'Prentice Hand (1900). According to newspaper reviews, she went on to have a moderately successful career on stage. She never married and died on 23 April 1941 in Warminster.
