Biography: Rosa Matilda Perkins was born in 1857 in Gosport, the daughter of Royal Navy boatswain John Farrell and his wife Mary. In 1877 she married ship draughtsman Edmund Perkins and the couple had a daughter. After a time in London, the family moved to Devonport where her husband worked as the foreman of H. M. dockyards. Around the same time Perkins turned her hand to writing, contributing to periodicals and writing three novels beginning with The House of Hardale (1900). She died on 19 September 1911 at her home in Plymouth.
