Biography: Joseph Ashmore Russan was born on 10 February 1856 in Feckenham, the son of landowner and farmer John Russon and his wife Sarah. His early life cannot be traced. By the 1890s, he was an author of stories for boys for periodicals, little of which appeared in volume form. In the following decades, he described his occupation as financier and merchant. He married and the couple had four daughters. With his wife, he wrote several historical works on London. He died in 1940 in Godalming.
