Biography: Anna Jane Cupples was born in February 1839 in Edinburgh, the daughter of civil servant Archibald Douglas of the Edinburgh post office. In 1858, she married journalist and novelist George Cupples. Following her husband's lead, she became a prolific author of fiction and journalism. After the death of her husband, Cupples emigrated to New Zealand. She died on 14 November 1898 in Mosgiel.
