Biography: Eliza Ellen Burton was born in 1836 in Great Yarmouth, the eldest daughter of prosperous farmer Frederick Dendy. In 1860, she married bookseller and stationer William Dinzey Burton. Her husband died in 1867. Thereafter, Burton wrote the single novel before working as a governess in Hexham, a boarding house keeper in St. Pancras, and the lady superintendent of a boarding school in London. She died there on 25 December 1893.
