Biography: Mary Christian Bushe was born about 1839 in Dublin, the eldest daughter of Arthur Bushe and his wife Mary Anne Christian. In middle life, she wrote a history of Prince Rupert (1868) and a novel The Painted Bird and the Painted Text (1869). The following year, she married army officer Henry Fitzjohn Townsend of Sea Field, Castle Townsend, Co. Cork and the couple had two children. It appears she gave up writing after her marriage. She died on 21 February 1890 in Dublin.
