Biography: Sophia Elizabeth De Morgan was born on 10 November 1809 in London, the daughter of clergyman William Frend, the vicar of Madingley, and his wife Sarah (née Blackburne). In 1837, she married the mathematician Augustus De Morgan who is rightly famous for his work in logic and set theory. The couple had seven children including the artist and novelist William De Morgan and novelist Mary Auguste De Morgan. De Morgan wrote several books including two works of fiction and a memoir of her husband. After her husband's death in 1871, she was granted a civil list pension of £50. She died on 5 January 1892 in Chelsea.
