Author: Edwin Goadby (1836–1901)

Biography: Edwin Goadby was born on 28 August 1836 in Leicester, the son of clergyman Joseph Goadby. At the prompting of his father, he initially studied medicine but eventually abandoned it for literary work. In the 1860s, Goadby's literary activity was incessant, contributing to dozens of magazines and newspapers and writing his only work of fiction The Newburys (1864). He went on to edit the Western Daily Mercury (1866–1874) and the York Daily Herald (from 1874). In 1868, he marred Eliza A. Brooks and the couple had two children. He died suddenly on 14 April 1901 at Charing Cross Station in London.
