Biography: Edmund Mitchell was born on 19 March 1861 in Glasgow, the son of educator John Mitchell. He attended Aberdeen University where he earned an M.A. degree. He then turned to journalism spending time in India, Australia, and America as a special correspondent. On his return to England, he began writing novels. In 1886 he married and had five children. The family emigrated to the United States in 1907 and settled on the west coast in Los Angeles. He died on 30 March 1917 in New York City.
