Author: Mary Eliza Leslie (1834–1907)
Biography: Mary Eliza Leslie was born on 13 January 1834 in Monghir, India, the daughter of Baptist missionary Andrew Leslie and his second wife. As a child, the family moved to Calcutta. Expect for a brief trip to England, she spent her entire life in India. As a young woman, she began writing poetry and would go on to publish several collections. In addition, she wrote some prose works, including a novel. As a missionary, she worked in connection with several schools and philanthropic institutions. She never married and died on 31 May 1907 in Barrackpore.
