Author: Thomas McCombie (1819–1869)

Biography: Thomas McCombie was born on 7 February 1819 in Tough, Scotland, the son of Charles McCombie. As a young man he emigrated to Melbourne, Australia where he worked as a merchant, journalist, and editor. He served for a time on the Executive and Legislative Councils of Victoria. In 1844, he married Elizabeth Agnes Willis and the couple had four children. He wrote two novels, the first set in Australia. In mid life McCombie returned to Scotland and he died on 2 October 1869 in his native town.
