Biography: Florence Jane O'Connor was born in Louisiana. Her early life cannot be traced. She spent some time in England where she published a novel The Heroine of the Confederacy (1866). The same year, she married American army officer Elijah Arthur Willard in New Orleans. The couple lived in Illinois where their only child, a daughter, was born and died at five months old. O'Connor herself died a few months later on 17 September 1868 near Chicago. Her husband remarried in 1870 and later fled to Mexico after the failure of his bank.
