Author: Erskine Tudor Risk (1842–1887)

Biography: Erskine Tudor Risk was born in 1842 in Manchester, the son of John Erskine Field Risk. Ask a young man, he joined the light infantry of the Royal Marines and rose to the rank of captain by his retirement. While on active service, he wrote a novel Reginald Vane (1867) under his initials (later advertisements revealed his name). After his retirement, he became the superintendent of the gymnasium at Harrow. He never married and died suddenly on 12 September 1887 at Harrow.
