Author: Walter Reid (1829–1917)
Biography: Walter Reid was born in 1829 in Darlington, the son of tanner John Reid. He began a career in journalism in Newcastle before moving to Bristol where he owned the Bristol Observer and the Western Daily Press. In addition to his newspapers, he wrote the Christmas-themed novel Off Land's End (1867). He married and had one son who predeceased him. A fixture of Bristol life, he died on 18 February 1917 in Bristol.
