Author: Edward Charles Mogridge (1826–1874)

Biography: Edward Charles Mogridge was born on 10 November 1826 in Birmingham, the youngest son of author George Mogridge ("Old Humphrey"). He entered business becoming a partner in a trading house. As business was distasteful to him, he spent much time on literary work, publishing a collection of poems (1858), a collection of stories (1865), and miscellaneous journalism. He traveled to Italy for his health (a poor throat) and he died of a chill caught while bathing on 21 January 1874 in Ischia. Notable, he converted to Roman Catholicism shortly before his trip.
