Biography: Sarah Tomlinson was born on 28 December 1809 in Salisbury. After a time as a Sunday school teacher, she worked as a governess for a family in North Wiltshire. In 1839 she married scientist and educator Charles Tomlinson and the couple moved to London. She contributed to magazines including the Saturday Magazine and wrote two works of fiction. After a long illness, she died on 17 October 1872 in London.
