Author: Margaret Fraser Tytler (1811–1850)

Alternate Name(s): Ogilvy (married name)

Biography: Margaret Fraser Tytler was born around 1811 in Scotland, the daughter of William Fraser Tytler and his wife Margaret Cussans Grant. From a young age, she wrote fiction aimed at young adult readers beginning with Tales of the Great and Brave (1838). In 1847 she married businessman Thomas Ogilvy of Corrimony, Inverness. Tragically, she died on 15 December 1850 in Edinburgh a few days after her daughter died. Inexplicably, her last novel was published more than twenty years after her death.
