Author: Sarah Buncombe Hancock (1837–1893)
Biography: Sarah Buncombe Hancock was born in 1837 in Wedmore, the daughter of surgeon John Hancock and his wife Sarah. Besides a few trips to the Lake Country and Scotland, she lived her whole life in Wedmore. As a young woman, she wrote a collection of poems Lakeland (1864) and went on to write another as well as a novel Under the Arches (1871) and a travel narrative From Bath to Skye (1876). She never married and died on 1 November 1893 in Wedmore. According to a death notice, she was the organist in her parish church for thirty years.
