Biography: Sarah Woods was born around 1815 possibly in London. Her early life cannot be traced. She married and soon after was left a widow. In 1855, she married Unitarian minister John Crawford Woods and the couple emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia. While there, she began a literary career writing fiction, her most successful being The Curate's Friend (1867) and The Jew and the Roman (1878) (the latter only published in Australia). After several months of failing health, she died on 10 December 1880 in Adelaide. Note: her obituary gives 10 December as her death date whereas her tombstone erroneously gives 12 December.
