Author: John Amphlett (1845–1918)

Biography: John Amphlett was born on 22 March 1845 in Sydenham, the son of landowner John Amphlett and his wife Jane Smitheon. He came from a long line of Amphletts who owned Clent House for over two-hundred years. He attended Oxford University (M.A.) before being called to the bar in 1870. In 1869, he married Eliza Anne Baylie and the couple had three children. He worked as a barrister and judge and took an interest in local affairs. Amphlett wrote the single novel Warnton Kings (1875) and later wrote a history of Clent. He died on 23 June 1918 near Stourbridge.
