Biography: Emily Beesly was born in 1840 in London, the youngest daughter of barrister and judge Sir Charles Crompton and his wife Caroline Fletcher. In 1869, she married history professor Edward Spencer Beesly and the couple had four sons. During her married life she wrote just the single book, Stories from the History of Rome (1878). She died on 11 December 1889 in London.
