Author: Harriet Olivia Boddington (1809–1877)

Biography: Harriet Olivia Boddington was born about 1809 in Worcestershire, the daughter of West Indies merchant Thomas Boddington and author Mary Boddington. She grew up in wealth and comfort. According to her obituary, she "united the varied talents of a highly distinguished intellect, clothed in a modesty which avoided all publicity." In addition to some contributions to periodicals, she only published a collection of stories Real and Unreal (1876) the year before her death. She never married, lived with her brother, and died on 11 April 1877 in Gunnersbury.
