Biography: Frederick A. White was born on 13 August 1929 in Sheffield, the son of the Rev. William White. His middle name is variously given as "Avarne," "Averne," or "Ameers." He attended St. John's College, Cambridge and graduated with a B.A. He then lived in London as a private tutor. He also wrote several books including a collection of poems (1865), a history of England, a biography of Homer, and a school story The Boys of Raby (1877). He never married and died in 1908 in London.
