Biography: Anne Amelia Strange Butson was born on 23 February 1841 in London, the daughter of physician Edward Rigby. In 1864, she married army officer William Strange Butson who came from a large Irish family of clergymen. As a wife, she wrote and illustrated the single novel On the Leads (1880) as well as contributing to the press. At least one source described Butson as "an eminent lady journalist." She died on 11 October 1923 in Devizes.
