Biography: Jane Besemeres was born on 31 March 1827 in Bishopsgate, the daughter of John Besemeres, the owner of the outfitting company Besemeres and Co. Her older brother was the author John Daly Besemeres. She wrote a handful of books, including fiction, often under the pseudonym "Janet Byrne." By the 1890s, she moved to Wolverhampton where she took an interest in the education of deaf children. She eventually opened a home and school for deaf girls. She never married and died on 8 December 1905 in Wolverhampton. Her school survived into the twentieth century.
