Author: Kate Eyre (1858–1937)
Biography: Kate Eyre was born in 1858 in Islington, the daughter of bank clerk Charles Eyre and his wife Catherine Agnes. At a young age, she went to work in the banking department of the General Post Office. Over time she rose to be a superintendent of her department. In 1886, she won a £50 story prize competition by Cassell's Family Magazine and Eyre went on to be a frequent contributor. A few of her serials were published as books. Late in life, she retired to Cheltenham. Eyre died on 31 December 1937 in Cheltenham.
