Biography: Henry James Goldsmith Armstrong was born on 25 January 1846 in Port Cygnet, Tasmania. He was educated at the Hutchins School, Hobart and was called to the bar. He moved to Victoria where he worked as a solicitor and barrister. In middle life, he wrote two novels set in Australia under the pseudonym "James Goldsmith," his middle names. He married and had several children. He died of liver cancer on 26 September 1916 in Kyneton. Sadly, his son died a year later on the Western Front.
