Author: Alfred Cooper Fryer (1855–1937)

Biography: Alfred Cooper Fryer was born in 1855 in Manchester. He was educated at Queenwood College, Owens College, and Leipzig University (Ph.D. 1882). On his return to England, he became a government inspector of chemical works. As an inspector, he was the member of several professional chemical societies. He also turned his hand to fiction beginning with Vic: The Autobiography of a Pomeranian Dog (1880). Later in life, Fryer lived in Bristol where he became a keen archaeologist and antiquarian (his expertise was baptismal fonts and medieval monumental effigies). He never married and died suddenly, collapsing in the street, on 1 September 1937 in Clifton.
