Author: Eliza Helen Hamilton (1807–1868)

Biography: Eliza Helen Hamilton was born in 3 October 1807 in Glasgow, the daughter of merchant Charles Hamiltion and his wife Isabella (née Campbell). Her siblings include attorney and novelist Alexander Hamilton and novelist Catherine Georgina Hamilton. As a poet, she was the author of the hymn "Jesus, my Lord, to Thee I cry" and her collected works appeared as Hymns for the Weary (1869). The collection was published posthumously with a preface by her sister and her only novel The Destroyer: A Temperance Tale (1869) was published the same week. She never married and lived with her parents. She died on 14 April 1868 in Edinburgh.
