Author: Absalom Peers (1819–1895)

Biography: Absalom Peers was born in 1819 in Birmingham, the son of founder Thomas Peers and his wife Sarah. Peers worked as a silversmith for several decades. In the 1860s, he began being a frequent contributor the local press, taking a particular interest in the working conditions of postmen. In 1843, he married Mary Ann Royle and the couple had seven children. He described his occupation as a magazine editor in the 1871 census, though in later years he managed a coal wharf. In addition to his journalism, he wrote a history of Sutton Coldfield and two collections of fiction. He died in 1895 in Alston.
