Author: Ernest Martin (1862–1924)

Biography: Ernest Martin was born in 1862 in Burslem near Stoke-on-Trent, the son of schoolmaster and author Henry Martin and his wife Jane. At a young age, he worked as a clerk, but in the 1890s he became an actor and author, publishing a novel Shadows (1899). He would go on to publish several plays in the next century as well contributed to periodicals including the Evening Standard, Daily Mail, and Boy's Own Paper. His acting and writing career had small success since he later worked as a commercial traveler for a publisher. Martin married Ethel May Johnston Semple in 1899 and the couple had one son. He died in 1924 in Wandsworth.
