Biography: Henrietta Fanny Gethen was born in 1847 in Hereford, the daughter of draper Henry Gethen and his wife Mary Jane Edwards. From an early age she trained as a nurse and served as Sister Queen at the London Hospital and later as secretary of the London Co-operation of Nurses. In addition to her duties, she wrote fiction, contributed to the press, and edited the journal Hospital. Gethen never married and died on 9 June 1922 in Hartley Wintney.
