Author: Ella Baker (1859–1888)

Biography: Ella Baker was born on 29 May 1859 in Kensington, the youngest daughter of barrister Thomas Baker. In her childhood, the family moved to Kingscote, Wokingham, where she spent the entirity of her life. Baker was educated at home with her siblings and early on exhibited intellectual and literary abilities by assisting her sister Amy in her literary work. In her twenties, she herself turned her hand to literature, producing a number of historical, poetical, and fictional works. She died suddenly after being stung by a bee on 14 July 1888 at home in Wokingham. A young life cut cruelly short.
