Author: John Fulford Vicary (1832–1887)

Biography: John Fulford Vicary was born in 1832 in North Tawton, Devon, the son of woolen manufacturer Gilbert Doke Vicary. He trained as a lawyer before taking over his father's factories which employed upwards of six hundred workers. He took a keen interested in Scandanavian life and he wrote several fiction and nonfiction books about the area. Of the former, he wrote A Danish Parsonage (1884) under the pseudonym "An Angler" and An American in Norway (1885) under his own name. In 1857, he married Maria Folgham Church and the couple had several children. He died relatively young on 16 June 1887 in North Tawton.
