Author: Annie Sarah Fenn (1857–1893)
Alternate Name(s): Cockerell (married name)
Biography: Annie Sarah Fenn was born on 30 November 1857 in Alford, the daughter of novelist George Manville Fenn and his wife Susanna Leake. Her brother was the author Clive Robert Fenn. She trained as a painter and also wrote several books for juveniles which seems to have been the family trade. Relatively late in life, in 1891, she married the zoologist Theodore Dru Alison Cockerell (1866–1948). Some years younger than Fenn, her father at first discouraged the match. The couple moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico both for Cockerell's work and for his health (presumed to be consumption). Unfortunately Fenn died there on 14 September 1893 a week after giving birth to their son.
