Author: Sarah Secunda Hewlett (1849–1914)

Biography: Sarah Secunda Hewlett was born in 1849 in Dover, the daughter of clergyman James Philip Hewlett and his wife Elizabeth Shackleford. Her paternal grandmother was the author Esther Copley. Hewlett's odd middle name notes that fact that her elder sister Sarah Emma died before her birth. She was educated at home before working as a daily governess. In 1880, she went to India as a medical missionary under the auspices of the Church of England Zenana Missionary Society. Hewlett superintended St. Catharine's Hospital in Amritzar as well as serving in a number of other missions. While in India, she wrote the single work of fiction None of Self and All of Thee (1889). She returned to England in 1912. She never married and died on 4 July 1914 in Oxford.
