Author: William Joseph Todd (1858–1917)
Biography: William Joseph Todd was born on 28 September 1858 in Dover, the son of Joseph Todd. After attending a local boarding school, he entered the army, serving as an officer with the Prince of Wales' Own (Yorkshire Regiment). For a long time, he was stationed at the Richmond barracks. While there, he wrote a locally-published novel The Doctor's Daughter (1887). That appears to have been the extent of his literary career. In the 1890s, he was part of campaigns in Burma. He retired in 1900 and lived in London. He never married and died on 17 March 1917 in London after accidently falling down the steps of the Army and Navy Club in Pall Mall.
