Author: Robert Wogan MacDonnell (1846–1891)

Biography: Robert Wogan MacDonnell was born around 1846 in Athlone, the eldest son of John MacDonnell. He studied medicine and practiced for a time but subsequently resigned his medical career and went into journalism. For many years he was the musical and dramatic critic for the Irish Times. Later he rose to be one of its editors. Poor health curtailed his career and he died from lung disease on 19 September 1891 in Dublin. A few years before his death, he published a collection of stories.
