Author: Evangeline Frances Smith (1853–1945)
Biography: Evangeline Frances Smith was born 27 February 1853 in Dorchester, the daughter of the Rev. Reginald Southwell Smith and his wife Emily Genevieve (née Simpson). Based on the censuses, she never left her native Dorset. She wrote three novels, In a Vain Shadow (1883), A Cruel Necessity (1886) (co-authored with her sisters), and a third A Bid for a Soul (1924) some forty years later. She never married and died on 14 January 1945 in Dorchester.
