Biography: Edwin Whelpton was born in 1849 in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire, the son of George and Alice Whelpton. His father owned a house decorating and painting business, a business his son continued after his death. In the 1880s, Whelpton turned to literature with three pastoral novels set in his native Lincolnshire: Ruth and Gabriel (1876) under the pseudonym "Laurence Cheny", A Lincolnshire Heroine (1883), and Meadow Sweet (1884). He also produced stories for Home Chimes and Good Words. Whelpton never married and remained in Market Rasen his whole life. He died in 1925.
