Biography: Jessie E. Livesay was born on 9 May 1863 in Mooltan (though throughout her life her birthplace is given as Bengal), the daughter of army officer Owen Ivan Chalmers and his wife Emma Gordon Moir. The family returned to England during her childhood. In 1896, she married paper merchant Walter Sidney Livesay and the couple had two sons, one of which went on to become a playwright. During her married life, she wrote novels beginning with The Little Tin Gods (1901) and continuing with three more. Livesay lived most of her life in Kensington where she died on 1 October 1938.
